Steam railroads - a truly Saxon experience
The Saxons have always been known as ingenious for their spirit of invention in the areas of industry and technology.
1839 was the year in which the first long-distance railroad in Germany began operating - between Leipzig and Dresden.
The ‘Saxonia’ puffed her way along the 71-mile track and entered the annals of history as the first German-built steam locomotive.
Today, there are still more narrow-gauge steam trains running in Saxony than anywhere else in Germany. This website invites you to experience these nostalgic trains in a unique landscape. And there are a host of other sights to see
along the tracks. |
