Schönheide - Stützengrün
Steam on the oldest narrow-gauge line in Saxony
The Museum Railroad of Schönheide runs on the oldest
narrow-gauge tracks in Saxony, which are over 120 years old. Even if it
has been many years since the trains were regularly steaming
off to a 26-mile journey from Wilkau in the Ore Mountains, the 29
1/2 inch (750 mm) railroad is still very much alive today. Admittedly,
the line has been shortened over the last century to 2.8 miles, but the
dedication of rail fans has since 1994 made sure that the trains again
steam through the bizarre western Ore Mountains from Schönheide to
Stützengrün/Neulehn, providing an experience of nature in a true
railroad atmosphere.
