Wild Robert Railroad - Narrow-Gauge Museums trains

Wild Robert Railroad

Oschatz - Mügeln - Kemmlitz

Rail with a magnetic attraction

In the north of Saxony, not far from the city of Leipzig with its trade fair, a small narrow-gauge railroad runs from the little town of Oschatz along the Döllnitz River and through the Mügeln region, stopping at what was once one of the largest narrow-gauge stations in Europe, in Mügeln. The great marshalling yards of days gone by can still be admired. And in Saxony’s largest narrow-gauge engine-shed, visitors can still sense the smell of the legendary IV K steam engine. On selected weekends and public holidays, the ‘Wild Robert’ sets off on nostalgic steam journeys along the 11-mile line.

Sideline attractions

• hiking, cycling and riding tours in the nearby Wermsdorf Forest

• the Scales Museum in Oschatz exhibits over 100 scales from the first scales manufacturers in Germany, the Pfitzer Brothers

• discovery tours to many different windmills and one of the few existing floating mills in Germany between Oschatz, Torgau and Delitzsch

• St. Aegidius Church in Oschatz holds such treasures as a stained glass altar piece, a tower residence and a Jehmlich organ made by the traditional Dresden organ-making family
