Sachsen unter Dampf
Saxon Rail Clubs and Museums

Saxony has always been an important transit land in the center of Europe. The trading city of Leipzig was already linked to the most important metropolises of Europe in the early Middle Ages. Particular mention should be made of the Via Regia – the King’s Road – which stretched from Spain via France and Frankfurt/Main to Saxony and then to Cracow and Russia. In the 19th century Saxony had the densest rail network in Germany and the ‘Royal Saxon State Railroad’ was the largest economic enterprise of the state. The railroad still brings joy and pride to the Saxons. Rail traditions are preserved with great dedication in clubs and museums all over the state.
