Nostalgia in Engine Shed 1 in Leipzig-Plagwitz
The Museum Engine Shed of Leipzig-Plagwitz has its home in
the former Leipzig rail works. Three steam engines, including the
city’s last operating steam engine 52 8154, can be seen in the museum,
which is situated in Engine Shed 1 of the former Prussian Locomotive
Station. The special attraction on open-house days is the Leipzig
Museum Train, which is being built with a variety of carriages and a
restaurant car of the former GDR Railroads. All of the carriages are
from the 1960s. Various small diesel locomotives and other vehicles
complete the picture. Members of the Leipzig Rail Club depart from the
shed several times a year to take their steam train and passengers on
trips near and far.
